  • UMW and the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank launched Eagle Air Support to refurbish and distribute 50 surplus Frigidaire air conditioners from demolished residence halls to local residents in need this summer.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Hope House asks locals to donate essentials (bedding, toiletries, food, and cleaning supplies) to support families in crisis. Executive Director Cait Woodward says even small contributions help the nonprofit meet everyday needs and focus on long-term programs.  Fredericksburg Free Press

  • Fredericksburg Regional Chamber announced on Friday, Jan. 9 that Ginni Matern will serve as the Chamber's 2026 Chair of the Board — further details on board roles are expected soon.  Potomac Local News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visitors at the Fredericksburg Visitor Center can explore the legacy of Horace Hill, a soldier killed near Chancellorsville on May 5, 1864 while fighting with the 111th New York Volunteers — National Park Service officials detailed the investigative steps taken.  Potomac Local News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rappahannock Electric Cooperative is awarding $20,000 in scholarships for REC members’ children planning to attend college or technical programs. Seventeen scholarships are offered—two at $2,500 and 15 at $1,000—with applications accepted until Feb. 27.  Fredericksburg Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • VDOT said lanes will close overnight from Jan. 11 to Jan. 17 for road work on I-95 (between Exits 104 and 118) with alternating closures at mile markers 107, 108, 110, and 115 for bridge inspections. Work on routes in Caroline County, Fredericksburg and Stafford County is weather dependent.  Potomac Local News
