- ➤ Local governments from Caroline, Spotsylvania, and Stafford Counties and Fredericksburg are facilitating the 2,300-mile Monks’ Walk for Peace, with Buddhist monks expected to reach the area in the first week of February (official updates will include a live Google map and event guidelines). - ➤ The Stafford Tourism and Business Marketing Summit has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 4 — it will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center on Sanford Drive in Fredericksburg due to expected winter weather. Potomac Local News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ In 2025, Virginia’s employment stayed almost unchanged with only 1,000 new jobs, impacted by a 12.8% cut in federal workers. Manufacturing jobs also fell while most local areas saw rising unemployment except Emporia (now at 7.3%). Fredericksburg Free Press

- ➤ Sen. Tim Kaine visited a local Career & Technical Center on Thursday afternoon in Spotsylvania to stress welding skills and technical education for students as regional shipbuilding and offshore wind projects drive demand for skilled workers. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Spotsylvania County Public Schools superintendent Clint Mitchell presented the FY27 budget proposal on Tuesday, which increases funding by $55.4 million to support cost-of-living adjustments, staff raises, and additional student resources.
