ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices spiked in Fredericksburg on Mar. 6 as local stations reported increased demand. Community members will join a Canstruction mission — Feed Fredericksburg — to help provide meals using donated food cans. The Free Lance–Star
- ➤ Triple A reports that rising crude oil prices and seasonal demand have pushed gas costs higher, with local prices averaging about $3.27 a gallon — a 42-cent increase from last week and above last year's $2.78 average. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers introduced a bill requiring unconscious bias training for medical license renewals (aimed at reducing disparities in maternal health outcomes) that now heads to Gov. Abigail Spanberger for her signature. Fredericksburg Free Press
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Massaponax's boys basketball season ended Friday night when the Panthers (22-7) fell 68-50 to Norview at Norfolk State University in the Class 5 semifinal; the team lost its early narrow lead and never recovered. Norview will face Green Run in the state championship Thursday at 8 p.m. at Siegel Center. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ UMW advanced to the NCAA second round when the Eagles beat Worcester State 86-55 Friday at Ron Rosner Arena — Kye Robinson led with 23 points. The team will host Amherst College today at 7:30 p.m. for a trip to the Sweet 16. Fredericksburg Free Press
