EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School board members tabled discussion on drug testing teachers at a Monday meeting after debate on recruitment and costs. Officials also kept Friday as a teacher workday and made April 21 a student holiday while planning weapons detection systems for all seven middle schools by week's end. Fredericksburg Free Press
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Spotsylvania learned of a proposed transmission line that may affect local areas, although officials noted that communities in the Piedmont region are at greater risk. They have not yet announced when plans will be reviewed. The Free Lance–Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ VDOT will begin removing overhead signs on Route 1 at 10 p.m. tomorrow between the Route 218/Route 17 Business intersection in Stafford County and the Hanson Avenue/Princess Anne Street intersection — part of a $1.6 million safety project — with 15-minute traffic stoppages between midnight and 6 a.m. Fredericksburg Free Press

- ➤ Local high school football saw major coaching shifts — Colonial Forge's John Brown stepped down on Feb. 27 for an admin role and Stafford, Hartwood, and King George announced new head coaches on Feb. 19, Feb. 27, and last Monday.
