- ➤ Residents can join this Earth Day craft event on April 14th at Potomac Library in the Potomac Community Room where they will make no-sew tote bags from repurposed t-shirts. Light refreshments will be provided, registration is required and the event runs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Potomac Local News
- ➤ Chinn Park Library will host Pete the Cat's Groovy Library Party on April 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.—the event will include stories, crafts, a scavenger hunt, singing and dancing. Potomac Local News
- ➤ Sarah Buskirk has opened HER House 2, a recovery home in downtown Fredericksburg for women recovering from substance abuse as residents will begin moving in later this week. The facility houses eight women (seven have already signed up) and offers sober-living skills and regular accountability meetings. The Free Lance–Star

- ➤ Dominion Energy said Tuesday it proposed raising the monthly base rate by $8.51 in 2026 and the fuel rate by $10.92 starting July 1—if approved, the average residential bill will increase from $140 to about $161.43 by Jan. 1. The utility said inflation and higher fuel costs are behind the proposed changes and awaits the State Corporation Commission's approval. Fredericksburg Free Press

- ➤ Stafford County Public Schools Superintendent Daniel Smith met with reporters Tuesday to discuss how federal guidance on DEI confirms the school system’s compliance while the committee works to monitor student performance. He said upcoming state budget talks and possible funding cuts may force Stafford to cut programs and positions, and the district will hold a job fair for federal workers on April 30 — a step that could help fill teacher vacancies. - ➤ UMW held its Student Showcase and Scholarship Luncheon on March 22—where cybersecurity major Christopher Walker and other students thanked donors for their support. Guests visited displays on the first floor of the Cedric Rucker University Center and later enjoyed a spring lunch in Chandler Ballroom as UMW President Troy Paino noted $14.5 million in gifts and pledges. - ➤ Virginia Cooperative Extension will host an event on April 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Potomac Library (Community Room), where residents learn about invasive plants and insects and craft their own insect. Potomac Local News

- ➤ The Family Nutrition Program 'Eating Smart Being Active' offers four free lessons, each lasting up to two hours, for parents or caregivers of children under 12 and for pregnant women or teens 16+ (participants receive reinforcement after every session) that cover healthy food choices, simple low-cost recipes, meal planning and safe ways to stay active. The program serves limited-resource families (those qualifying for TANF, WIC, Head Start, SNAP or Medicaid) through the Virginia Cooperative Extension. Potomac Local News
