  • Matern Staffing was named a Top Virginia Employer for Interns by SCHEV for its strong internship program that supports student experience + workforce development. The recognition reflects the company's commitment to nurturing local talent.  The Free Lance–Star

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Virginia gets most of its electricity from natural gas and nuclear power while using solar, wood and coal in smaller amounts and buying extra power from nearby states. The Legislature passed new laws ahead of the state's planned return to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which may affect energy costs.  Potomac Local News
  • In Fredericksburg, while gas prices spiked yet stayed below last year's $4.97 record, diesel hit a new high at $5.95 on Sunday—raising fuel costs for local drivers.  The Free Lance–Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Betsy Mason was sworn in as Fredericksburg's new police chief and said her interest began when she listened to a police scanner with her grandfather. She plans to launch a cadet program + may join the annual Law Enforcement United ride this spring.  Fredericksburg Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMW sophomore guard Kye Robinson entered the transfer portal on Monday after leading the Eagles to a 75 to 73 national championship win. Robinson wrote on Instagram that he is exploring future options after a standout season that saw him average 24.3 points per game.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • The University of Mary Washington Eagles won the NCAA Division III Championship against Emory University Sunday, Apr. 5 in Indianapolis & celebrated a historic victory as captured in team photos.  Fredericksburg Free Press
