- ➤ On Monday night, the Fredericksburg City School Board approved a new zoning map for the three elementary schools that shifts the Forest Village apartment complex from Hugh Mercer to Lafayette Elementary to balance enrollment and narrow the socioeconomic gap—leaving Gladys West with 523 students and Hugh Mercer with 493. The board will discuss a proposed $220,000 behavioral intervention classroom at its May meeting while noting that several new housing developments will affect future enrollment at Hugh Mercer.
