COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rappahannock Adult Activities (RAAI) is hosting its annual plant sale at 750 Kings Highway in Stafford beginning Friday at 10 a.m. Proceeds fund programs to teach job skills to adults with disabilities, with sales running weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.  Fredericksburg Free Press

  • The Fredericksburg area will welcome its first Zaxby's restaurant later this year in the Thornburg area near the new Wawa on Mudd Tavern Road + planned Kalahari Resorts property.  Fredericksburg Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fredericksburg’s Caroline Street was voted the Best Main Street in the South by Garden & Gun voters after a close final round ending 11:59 p.m. on April 7. City council members and locals rallied to support the win, highlighting growing community pride.  Fredericksburg Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stafford education backers urged supervisors at Tuesday night’s public hearing to fully fund schools as the county seeks a $18.6 million boost to support three new schools + better staff pay and benefits. Further meetings on the funding gap are set for April 16 and April 28.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Mountain View High School senior Roane Furlong asked the Stafford County Board of Supervisors to keep teacher positions unchanged amid low enrollment in some programs in the fiscal 2027 budget. The student stressed the importance of preserving essential educational services.  The Free Lance–Star

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Virginia lawmakers have introduced bills requiring sewage treatment facilities to test for PFAS in sludge before its use on farmland, aiming to reduce chemical contamination in food. Gov. Spanberger will review the bills by April 13.  Fredericksburg Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 7, the Greater Fredericksburg Kennel Club donated $2,349 to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office to support its K-9 unit and fund new tools + technology for community safety. The gift continues a tradition of backing local K-9 programs.  Potomac Local News
