- ➤ Fredericksburg Masonic Cemetery will host a ceremony on Saturday at 10 a.m. to install the long-lost tombstone of Elizabeth Spooner, discovered abandoned on a Spotsylvania farm in the 1980s plus the stone will be placed near her father’s and infant son’s gravestones to honor her legacy, organizers said. - ➤ UMW is launching a Certified Medical Office Manager course to train healthcare administrators, strengthen local career paths and boost community health services in Fredericksburg. The Free Lance–Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed legislation on Thursday to raise the minimum wage to $15 by 2028 — the wage will climb to $13.75 on Jan. 1, 2027 and adjust annually after 2029 to reflect inflation, and the law now covers farm workers. This move aims to support workers statewide. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ At a Board meeting on April 7, county residents discussed a proposed Buc-ee’s travel center in the Garrisonville and Rock Hill areas near Courthouse Road + Interstate 95, with many raising concerns over growth, traffic, and quality of life; strong community divisions emerged. Potomac Local News
