  • Brian Freeman, once a police detective who busted drug dealers and later struggled with drug use and prison, will open the Konnect Recovery Home for Men in Beaverdam later this month to help men start fresh—he returned home to care for his family and built a team to offer job training, support and safe housing for up to 20 men.  The Free Lance–Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Germanna and Oberle have partnered to offer skilled trades courses taught by Germanna faculty at Oberle. The courses cover electrical, HVAC, forklift operations, welding and solar energy.  The Free Lance–Star
  • Rep. Eugene Vindman, whose district covers Fredericksburg, introduced a bill that will require state educational agencies to enforce cellphone-free classrooms in public schools—he held a roundtable on March 29 with local educators and officials. Local superintendents supported the measure, which builds on Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s earlier executive order.  Fredericksburg Free Press

  • A bipartisan measure to let new parents in Congress vote by proxy failed — state lawmakers are now exploring remote voting options so that parents can stay involved while caring for their families.
