- ➤ World War II veteran Justin Carter, Jr. celebrated his 100th birthday at Mission BBQ on April 20 with family, friends and local well-wishers. The centenarian, a lifelong Fredericksburg native who served on D-Day and later worked locally, shared stories that reminded us of our past. Fredericksburg Free Press

- ➤ At the Cedric Rucker University Center, UMW hosted its first Print-a-Palooza earlier this week. Over 100 students used a rented 2,689-lb steamroller to make oversized prints and T-shirts for the 100th anniversary celebration of a long-standing campus tradition. University of Mary Washington

- ➤ UMW will launch a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts this fall (pre-professional training included) to expand its nationally recognized theatre program. The course is set to offer local students focused skills in acting and production. The Free Lance–Star
- ➤ Grafton Village Elementary principal Michael Sidebotham was named to the inaugural Virginia Principals of Distinction class on Thursday by Stafford County schools. He has led the school since 2007 (and was named principal of the year in 2018) in recognition of his strong leadership and commitment to student success. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ University of Mary Washington marked its 100th Devil-Goat Day yesterday with a campus-wide celebration featuring carnival games, a petting zoo, food trucks, and a tug-of-war contest — the event will continue online for alumni through May. University of Mary Washington
