- ➤ B101.5/WFVA launched its $100K Kindness Initiative at RAAI’s day support program where an annual plant sale is in full swing at 750 Kings Highway and gifts are planned for the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, the Fredericksburg SPCA, and Leashes of Valor—Centennial Broadcasting II is managing the effort. - ➤ Virginia Community Food Connections has announced the SNAP Match program to give families on SNAP extra dollars to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at local farmers markets + the program aims to improve local access to nutritious food. - ➤ Fredericksburg native Tug Coker will star as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird at Riverside Center for the Performing Arts from May 7 to June 22—his hometown stage debut—adapting Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a lawyer defending a wrongly accused man. Potomac Local News

- ➤ House budget leaders have proposed a measure that will strip schools of their CEP status—making it harder for millions of children nationwide, including 492,000 in Virginia, to get free school meals. If the proposal passes, all four Radford schools and most schools in Washington and Grayson Counties will lose this program, adding paperwork burdens that could reduce access to nutritious meals.
