Confederate General Stonewall Jackson was wounded by his own men during the Battle of Chancellorsville on May 2nd, 1863—his left arm was amputated and he died eight days later in Caroline County.

UMW held its annual Devil-Goat Day on April 24th, turning 99 by pitting students in red against those in green in a friendly campus competition.

City crews removed over 15 tons of debris from the drained canal in Fredericksburg and repaired its aeration system—cleanup will continue through Wednesday before pumps refill the canal in three to five days while officials investigate the cause.
