- ➤ The remains of three U.S. soldiers found during a 2015 excavation in downtown Fredericksburg were buried on May 2 at Fredericksburg National Cemetery after DNA analysis, radiocarbon dating, and uniform buttons confirmed their Civil War ties (official research started in 2017). Officials collaborated with the National Park Service amid COVID-19 delays and visitors can honor them during Memorial Day weekend luminaria on May 24 (the cemetery, established in 1866, holds over 15,000 servicemembers). - ➤ The city school board in Fredericksburg is testing a new Student Success Academy — an alternative to out-of-school suspension for students with disruptive behavior.
