  • Fredericksburg Main Street will launch the Meet the Merchant series on Wednesday, May 28 at Fraser Wood Elements on Caroline Street—designed to help locals meet the people behind their favorite local shops.   • In April, the local housing market saw a 3% rise in the median price to $462,000 with 479 homes sold and over 1,000 listings, including a downtown sale at 710 Caroline St. for $1.1 million. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia voters are proud of the public colleges with 90% saying these schools help young people succeed and 81% believing they prepare students well for a changing economy — a December poll by the VBHEC of 800 registered voters shows little difference between parties despite rising costs and political debates.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • On Mary Wash Day, the UMW community donated a record-breaking $1.33 million to support students, faculty and programs during the 24-hour event held April 2-3 from noon to noon. The drive attracted 2,565 donors who made 3,654 gifts with a 58% increase over last year—marking the event's highest total in its eight-year history.  University of Mary Washington
