COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sheetz is offering free donuts from June 6 through 10 when you buy a drink and Downtown Fredericksburg holds twilight events with late-night shopping and live music every Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. The Homeland Security department removed its controversial sanctuary list after criticism and the city seeks candidates for City Treasurer and Commissioner of the Revenue with a June 17 qualification deadline.  Potomac Local News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Governor Youngkin and Kalahari Resorts founder Todd Nelson held a steel beam signing at the Thornburg site on Wednesday to show the project is ahead of schedule for the $900 million indoor waterpark. The project will open on Nov. 12, 2026, and is expected to add 1,500 jobs—local government and school officials attended the event.  Fredericksburg Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stafford County's Board of Supervisors voted four to one to recognize June as Pride Month — a proposal by board chairman Deuntay Diggs — and approved a route for a new road and bridge over the Rappahannock River. They also authorized $3.4 million in retention bonuses for school employees while the regional planning body will review the proposed river crossing route on June 16.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Area residents will see many emergency vehicles along the Rappahannock River this weekend during a planned water rescue training drill. The exercise begins tomorrow and runs through Saturday—fire and rescue teams from Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George counties will use boats, drones, and specialized equipment over 20 miles to test their response readiness.  Potomac Local News
  • The City of Fredericksburg worked to reduce barriers for the unhoused when City Council directed the City Manager on April 8th to meet with Thurman Brisben Center and explore changes to the special use permit. The city has also approved $265k for regional homeless outreach providers—steps meant to boost service coordination and data sharing.  City of Fredericksburg
  • Stafford County's Board of Supervisors voted on June 3 to endorse Option C—its preferred route for a new Rappahannock River crossing—linking Celebrate Virginia Parkway with Gordon Shelton Boulevard as an alternative to I-95 to reduce traffic.  Potomac Local News
