ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 8:57 a.m. today, the Fredericksburg Fire Department and units from Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties responded to a fire at a two-story commercial building on Wolfe Street—firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, cut a roof opening for ventilation, and shut off utilities while one resident was displaced and the Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the cause.  City of Fredericksburg

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday night, the Spotsylvania School Board voted (5-2) to remove halters, tank or tube tops, and bare midriffs/crop tops from the list of banned clothing amid concerns the rules led to students missing class. Some board members opposed the change while also approving a new phone rule and federal funding proposals for low-income schools, with one member saying he does not care what students wear if they follow the rules.  Fredericksburg Free Press

  • Fredericksburg Fire officials said the Rappahannock Operational Readiness Exercise held late last week tested regional water rescue plans and earned high marks—showing the team is ready for emergencies.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • A new nonprofit called CCBC was established in Fredericksburg to improve housing, health care, and legislative representation for Black residents. Chairman Shellie Bowman said the group will work with local leaders (and community members) to expand advocacy programs following recent vetoes of bills aimed at fairness.  Fredericksburg Free Press
