- ➤ Last week, Chrissy Hamilton—founder of Old Dominion Humane Society—traveled nearly 10 hours from Fredericksburg to Patrick County to rescue 14 neglected dogs that had been abandoned in crates under near 90-degree heat. Many of the rescued dogs, including seven dehydrated puppies with parasites, received treatment and are now cared for by foster families. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Local hard rock band Whiskey Tango-6 performed at the third annual Burn Rubber to Help Another fundraiser on June 14 at Dominion Raceway and Entertainment to raise funds for children battling cancer. The event—organized by teen race car driver Mini Tyrrell’s nonprofit Mini’s Mission—hosted 30 families and supported research and care for affected children. Potomac Local News

- ➤ A Fredericksburg-area judge, Richard T. McGrath, was indicted on bribery charges on June 2nd after he allegedly threatened to dismiss traffic tickets if Spotsylvania County officials did not approve pay raises for court staff (his next appearance is set for July 7th) according to special prosecutor Nate Green. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy will open a new indoor firearms facility on Lee Hill Drive in a renovated 9,000-square-foot warehouse next door to the academy. The facility features 14 shooting lanes, a classroom, and storage — a ribbon cutting is planned for August 13 with the first class to start before the official opening. Potomac Local News
- ➤ VDOT is planning to upgrade the busy intersection at LaFayette Boulevard and Kenmore Avenue by removing a traffic signal and adding stop control on Kenmore, along with improvements to sidewalks, lighting, and pavement. Some local business owners say they want police to crack down on speeding drivers instead of changing the design—Fredericksburg officials said they will boost targeted patrols at the intersection. - ➤ Fredericksburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Elizabeth Humphries said a new court program in General District Court will help misdemeanor offenders with mental health issues get the services they need. The program will cover charges like disorderly conduct, shoplifting and trespassing while guiding participants through five phases over nine months—streamlining case management. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Stafford County supervisors approved zoning changes that now require a conditional use permit for campgrounds, affecting a controversial White Oak campground proposal by developer Mark McLeod and rezoned 24.3 acres from agricultural to urban use for a mixed use project near Stafford Hospital that will include apartments, offices and community facilities - they also voted unanimously to start a speed and red light camera program for school zones that will fine $100 for speeding and $50 for running stoplights.
