  • Fredericksburg will hold Fourth in Fredericksburg on July 4 with a professional fireworks display at about 9:00 p.m. and street closures from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. will affect 600—800 blocks of Sophia Street, the 100 block of Hanover Street, and the 100 block of Charlotte Street while City parks will not allow personal fireworks due to hot, dry weather.  City of Fredericksburg

  • Virginia Railway Express CEO Rich Dalton announced his retirement on June 20—he has served over 16 years at the agency and will step down on October 3.  Potomac Local News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Multiple road work projects are scheduled this week weather permitting; projects include alternating lane closures for maintenance on I-95 from Exit 110 to Exit 126 + resurfacing and milling on local roads in Fredericksburg and nearby counties such as Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George and Stafford. Crews will work overnight and during off-peak hours to upgrade bridges, ramps and intersections.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Virginia Department of Elections announced Monday that it will slash voter data costs by 90% starting next month, reducing a $6,000 fee to $600 for a full list. This move will help candidates, parties & groups get the information they need ahead of the November elections.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Regional transportation planners advanced plans for a new bridge over the Rappahannock River when FAMPO approved Option C on June 16 — a route connecting Celebrate Virginia Parkway with Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard — while Spotsylvania officials raised concerns about impacts to local roads. Consultants will complete cost estimates and finalize documents ahead of the NEPA review that will assess alternatives and regional effects.  Potomac Local News
  • A surge in OmniRide riders is causing overcrowding on key routes, with officials recording 74 crowded trips in May as demand rises on buses serving Fredericksburg and nearby counties. The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission will assess trends by mid-July and plan to expand service on grant-funded routes—while local routes still lack dedicated funds to handle expected fall increases.  Potomac Local News
