Good morning, Fredericksburg. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 26th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fredericksburg Planning Commission held a public hearing Wednesday night at 3430 Fall Hill Ave to review rezoning for a 34.7-acre mixed-use development that may include a 14,000 square foot grocery store potentially operated by Trader Joe’s. The plan also calls for 240 single-family attached homes, 365 apartments, commercial space and a new road with signalized intersections (the project is expected to complete by the end of 2028).  Fredericksburg Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The strong heat dome that pushed temperatures to record levels is easing as most places stayed below 100 degrees, though sticky air and scattered thunderstorms remain a risk. Forecasts show that later in the week, isolated storms will develop (for example, South Boston hit 100 on Tuesday) as conditions gradually shift back to more typical summer warmth.  Fredericksburg Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Fredericksburg City Council signaled openness to easing zoning rules for tattoo shops by removing the 500-foot buffer from residential areas. Co-owner Kelly Drake said the change would help small business owners find downtown storefronts faster and avoid long waits for special use permits.  Fredericksburg Free Press
