Good morning, Fredericksburg.

No Kid Hungry has honored local Food Bank workers Carey Sealy and Curtis Dickerson as Summer Hunger Heroes for their work to get meals to children during the summer.

They manage 12 sites (churches, schools, a park, and a retail partner) and have added later hours and a home delivery test to help working families.

Antoine Carey started Faded & Co. in 2014 to help people leaving prison learn barbering skills and rebuild their lives.

He later opened a nonprofit academy that offers scholarships, barber kits and mentoring through three state-approved courses — Barber I, Master Barber and Dual Barber/Master Barber — to give newcomers a fair start.

On June 24, the City Council approved the Fredericksburg Forward plan that sets a 20-year vision for growth and preservation—shaped by nearly two years of public input from residents and experts.

The plan will guide changes in housing, transportation, and public spaces to meet the community's needs.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin has appointed Fredericksburg businessman Gregory Chambers, executive director of CRA Research LLC, to the University of Mary Washington's Board of Visitors — he also reappointed alumnae Rachel Greszler and Terrie Suit to the board.

Chambers, a 1984 Mary Washington graduate, brings over 40 years of experience in defense and aerospace that will support local business efforts.

The Virginia Governor’s Office announced in June that Gregory Chambers ’84, executive director at CRA Research LLC in Fredericksburg, joined the University of Mary Washington Board of Visitors—while the terms of alumnae Rachel Greszler ’03 and Terrie Suit, MBA ’16, were renewed.

Marine Lt. Col. Justin Murphy, a Fredericksburg veteran who received a deferred disposition for a DUI charge in March 2024, graduated from the Rappahannock Regional Veterans Treatment Docket on Thursday afternoon in Spotsylvania County Circuit Court — a program that offers veterans help with substance abuse and mental health services. He will join the National Vet Court Alliance to use his experience to guide other service members in getting back on track.
