ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At about 8:33 a.m. today, the Fredericksburg Fire Department along with Spotsylvania County Fire and Stafford County Fire-Rescue responded to a structure fire at a three-story home in the Fox Chase Subdivision and quickly extinguished the basement fire while ensuring occupants were safe, with two residents treated for smoke inhalation and the Fire Marshal's Office beginning an investigation into the cause.  City of Fredericksburg
  • A quick-thinking passerby used a garden hose — slowed the spread of a house fire on Erin Drive and allowed firefighters to rescue five dogs— this afternoon.  Potomac Local News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The historic property at 525 Caroline St. in downtown Fredericksburg will re-open as an event and wedding venue in a 19,000-square-foot building. Heidi Dimas will open the venue — Fredericksburg Square by Dimas Downtown — and it will host weddings and events in the future.  Fredericksburg Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UMW held its summer symposium where students used AI to create a short movie and study eye tracking and speech sounds. The five‑week event — which let them work closely with professors — helped build practical skills for future projects.  University of Mary Washington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Government agencies in Fredericksburg and nearby counties held meetings on Monday and will meet today to discuss topics such as school board retreats, retention bonuses from state funds, cell phone policy updates and transportation improvements for a raised intersection project. Officials in Caroline, King George and Spotsylvania Counties are addressing these issues and other local development plans that may shape future policies.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Road work is underway in the Fredericksburg area — on I-95, Route 1 and several county roads in Caroline, Spotsylvania and Stafford — with lane closures and repairs scheduled at night and during the day from Monday to Friday; drivers should expect delays as projects continue and some work will run into later years.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Virginia Supreme Court is set to hear a lawsuit by Historic Fredericksburg Foundation challenging the city council’s decision to permit demolition of a historic structure at 204 Lewis St. (The nonprofit argues its close proximity gives it a direct interest) Oral arguments are expected in the fall or winter (lower courts previously ruled for the council).  Fredericksburg Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center recently celebrated its 15th anniversary and honored 30 founding employees who joined on June 7th, 2010—CEO Ryan DeWeese and Berkeley District Supervisor Kevin Marshall led the event. The 133-bed hospital near Interstate 95 has grown to serve thousands in the region and continues to provide a wide range of care.  Potomac Local News
