- ➤ Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares announced Thursday that the state will receive up to $16.4 million from a $720 million multi-state opioid settlement with eight drug manufacturers accused of pushing addictive painkillers into communities. The settlement — which limits opioid marketing and mandates production safeguards — is set to support statewide recovery efforts and hold the companies accountable. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Fredericksburg Planning Commission unanimously voted to recommend disapproval of a zoning map amendment and special-use permit for a planned 2.1 million square foot data center due to concerns about transmission line routes crossing a car rider line and play area during a recent meeting—concerns that commissioner Thomas Johnson highlighted. Penzance Development’s proposal would have brought up to $50 million in tax revenue and around 240 jobs, but commissioners said the project's increased footprint may harm local water resources—issues that outweighed its benefits.
