Country music artist Steven Cade performed at The Brisben Center on July 11 and donated a guitar to support lessons at the local homeless shelter—an effort that enhances his Giving Guitars Tour and aims to raise funds amid recent budget cuts.
His performance provided residents with a moment of musical relief and a chance to learn a new skill.
The community briefs report that the Marine Corps League donated $1,000 to support Young Marines and a 17-year-old from North Stafford High swam a 5K on July 4 to honor veterans, while the Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District was recognized for public health readiness.
Other updates include Stafford High School planning a reunion on Oct. 5 with tickets at $45 by Sept. 1, the Northern Neck Vegetable Growers Association awarding $10,000 in scholarships, Stafford County earning two national awards for government programs, and a history series at Washington Heritage Museums scheduled from July 28 to 31.
The Food Bank announced that people in Fredericksburg can receive weekly food assistance through Drive-Thru (Walk-Up or Fresh Market) distribution options, with service available to anyone in need.

Local road work is planned on many routes with alternating lane closures and mobile operations for milling, paving and pavement marking across the Fredericksburg region—projects include work on major highways as well as residential subdivisions.
Drivers should expect delays from today through the work week with some projects finishing by August and others scheduled for completion into 2027.
