Good morning, Fredericksburg.

Last week, a 1939 federal law stirred controversy in local elections as a legal opinion on the Hatch Act affected three federal employee candidates, Spotsylvania County schools revised discipline policies and began offering free meals, and the Caroline Planning Commission rejected a data center project after public input—Stafford County also avoided a Justice Department probe over Title IX, a plan for a travel sports facility aimed to attract investors, and local jazz musician Don Brown praised the lasting appeal of live music.

Plans are moving forward for the RIVERE Ecological Center on the banks of the Rappahannock in Fredericksburg — the first project of its kind on the Eastern seaboard — after receiving a $72,000 planning grant from GO Virginia Region 6.

The center will build both a virtual and physical space to support ecological research, education and technology innovation.
