COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fredericksburg first responders were honored for heroism at the annual breakfast held August 13 at the Convention Center, where law enforcement, EMS, and fire teams received awards. Major Shawn Kimmitz of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office received the Lifetime Achievement Award for 31 years of service and citizens were recognized for lifesaving actions in emergencies.  Potomac Local News

  • Centennial Broadcasting II, LLC reached an agreement—pending FCC approval—to acquire SuperHits 95.9 and Thunder 104.5 from Telemedia Broadcasting and longtime station owner Carl Hurlebaus, and the acquisition will expand its presence in our local market.  Potomac Local News

  • In August, the University of Mary Washington named several alumni to its Foundation Board of Trustees & Alumni Association Board of Directors. The new board members will guide growth, philanthropic outreach and alumni engagement.  University of Mary Washington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spotsylvania County supervisors approved an ordinance that allows data center projects to be built by right if they follow new rules—buildings must be set 1,000 feet from homes, schools, churches, hospitals, daycares, and parks and kept at a height of 75 feet. The ordinance also defines a data center and sets conditions for future development projects.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • SpaceX said its Starlink applications were unfairly treated when Virginia’s broadband office picked costly fiber over its low-cost and fast satellite service—claiming the state plan wasted federal funds. The company asked that the state redo its final proposal so that the National Telecommunications and Information Administration reconsiders the current plan.  Fredericksburg Free Press
