  • Drool in the Pool returns on Saturday, September 6 at Woodlands Pool in Stafford and on Sunday, September 7 at Mark Lenzi Pool in Fredericksburg — both events run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $6. Owners must be 18 or older, show written proof of current rabies vaccination, and bring a donation to help the Stafford County Animal Shelter.  Potomac Local News
  • Historic Fredericksburg Foundation is commemorating WWII’s 80th anniversary this weekend with a USO dance on Friday and an open house with a blood drive on Saturday at the former USO building—now the Dorothy Hart Center.  Potomac Local News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fredericksburg’s Concert by Canoe series will return tomorrow at Motts Run Reservoir with the Shim Dogs performing live from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees can rent canoes and pre-order $15 charcuterie boxes with orders due each Tuesday at 9 a.m. as the series runs weekly until September 10.  Potomac Local News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Mary Washington has been named in the 2026 Fiske Guide to Colleges as one of the nation’s best and most interesting schools—praised for its strong academics, small classes, and active campus life in historic Fredericksburg, and it is one of 11 Virginia universities recognized in the guide.  University of Mary Washington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Virginia housing nonprofits and local residents are watching federal proposals that may cut HUD funding, which supports nearly 200,000 homes—50,000 of those housing voucher users may face new challenges. Local groups like HOME help residents secure safe homes after issues such as failed inspections, a process that many depend on to live independently.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Road construction and lane closures will impact I‑95, Route 1 and other local roads in Fredericksburg and nearby areas as crews conduct inspections, milling, paving and safety improvements, mostly overnight.
