CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Fredericksburg man has been charged with felonies after he allegedly spit at police officers and bit one—breaking the officer's finger during a shoplifting incident. The Free Lance–Star
- ➤ Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reported multiple crimes on August 15th and 16th, including a Richmond man, Adrian Chiodo, who bit a deputy on I-95 after hallucinating and a woman who turned herself in after rear-ending a car multiple times at a Chick-fil-A drive-thru—other incidents involved DUI, larceny, public intoxication, trespassing, and a thrown Bluetooth speaker. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A report from the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center forecasts that Virginia will lose about 11,700 jobs by the end of this year and see almost no job growth in 2026 due to federal cuts and tariffs—factors that have already led to recent losses. The forecast also shows that job gains will be modest in 2027 as the state slowly recovers. Fredericksburg Free Press

- ➤ VRE saw a seasonal decline in ridership in June at the Fredericksburg station—totals remained above last year’s as officials continue the CEO search. Potomac Local News
- ➤ VDOT officials told City Council in July that the Falmouth Bridge will need a complete rebuild—expected to take more than three years—after emergency lane closures and truck weight limits were imposed last fall. Potomac Local News
- ➤ Fredericksburg voters can help choose the city’s first original voting stickers by voting online until August 25 at 4:30 p.m.—the winning design will debut at early voting on September 19 and be used in future elections. Potomac Local News
- ➤ Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division will test its range today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—neighbors may hear very loud noise and access to the Potomac River Middle Danger Zone will be restricted for safety. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Fredericksburg has hired Todd Flippen as Assistant City Manager for Utilities and Capital Projects. He brings more than 20 years of local government experience and will lead key water, wastewater and stormwater projects—such as the upgrade of Fire Station #3 and the Wastewater Treatment Plant—in a public works restructuring aimed at boosting local infrastructure.
