  • Stafford County supervisors delayed a decision on data center rules and set a work session next Tuesday while Prince William County seeks to appeal a judge’s ruling on the Digital Gateway project near Manassas National Battlefield Park. In Fredericksburg, top MLB draft pick Eli Willits will debut for the Nationals on Thursday and five local schools were named America’s Healthiest as a free HIIT workout on Sept 30th, Oktoberfest from Sept 19th to 21st, an End of Summer Banana Pudding Bash from Aug 28th through Sept 1st, and a free concert series on Sept 12th — local communities brace for a busy week.  Potomac Local News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, hundreds of first-year students and their families moved into University of Mary Washington’s residence halls amid a light rain, helped by upperclassmen in yellow T-shirts and over 100 student volunteers. The university welcomed more than 1,000 new students—first-year, transfer, and graduate—as part of the 2025-26 academic year.  University of Mary Washington

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dominion Energy replaced 82 HID bulbs with LED bulbs in Central Park in August, cutting carbon emissions by 32.5 metric tons and saving on electricity after a 21-month payback (cost: $11,982.54). City Council approved an extra $70,000 (FY2026) to update more streetlights along major corridors, aiming for a full LED conversion by 2028.  City of Fredericksburg

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stafford Supervisors delayed their decision on stricter DataCenter rules after Tuesday's hearing drew a large crowd—emotional testimony led to the vote being postponed. They will hold a work session next week before proposing new regulations.  Potomac Local News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rappahannock Area Community Services Board announced Friday that it purchased a Spotsylvania property formerly owned by Rappahannock Goodwill Industries to create a 24-hour Crisis Receiving Center for psychiatric emergencies. The center will undergo about $6.5 million in renovations to start services in spring 2027—partly funded by $12 million from Virginia’s Right Help, Right Now initiative.  Fredericksburg Free Press
