EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fredericksburg City School Board will meet today at 6 p.m. at the Walker-Grant Center to discuss transportation issues that have led to bus delays and route changes since school began on Aug. 19. The meeting includes a public comment period—parents can share concerns as the board reviews its update and hiring efforts.  Fredericksburg Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • VDOT announced that most lane closures on I-95 will be lifted from noon Friday, August 29 until noon Tuesday, September 2 to ease congestion for holiday travelers—while the I-95 Express Lanes will run northbound only on Labor Day, with normal operations resuming on Tuesday, September 2.  Potomac Local News
  • The Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy opened a 9,000-square-foot indoor firearms range on Lee Hill Drive at its main campus—featuring 14 lanes, classrooms, and simulated darkness for training—after a ribbon-cutting on August 20. The facility will begin training 250 to 300 recruits later this month to enhance officer preparedness amid past challenges in securing proper range space.  Potomac Local News
  • Stafford County will hold local elections in November with contests in four board of supervisors races and four school board seats along with statewide contests for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general—early voting starts Sept. 19, mail ballots can be requested by Oct. 24, and Election Day is Nov. 4.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Virginia voters will choose all 100 House seats in November and lawmakers may enforce a new rule to ban same-sex marriages if the Supreme Court reconsiders the ruling that legalized them—this move could affect thousands of couples.  Fredericksburg Free Press

  • RACSB will open a 24/7 walk-in clinic in Fredericksburg + the center will treat psychiatric crises with immediate care for behavioral health issues.  The Free Lance–Star
  • Today, two hospital leaders will speak at the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce forum at Virginia Credit Union Stadium from 9 to 10:30 a.m. as they discuss the region's healthcare challenges and potential plans to create a medical school that could open as early as 2029.  Potomac Local News
