COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fredericksburg community groups have planned a busy September with events that will bring residents together. The disAbility Resource Center will host a free Family Festival at the Fairgrounds on Sept 20, the Salem Ruritan raffle drawing is held today for Labor Day, a WWII movie discussion is planned for Sept 6 at Salem Church Library, and a 9/11 remembrance ceremony is set for Sept 11 outside the public safety building—giving many ways for local families to take part.  The Free Lance–Star

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Thomas Henderson was hit by a car while crossing Spotsylvania Road for his mail on Feb. 6, 2006 and survived a month-long coma and months of therapy—he later celebrated his 95th birthday with over 100 family and friends.  The Free Lance–Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • VDOT reported a new traffic signal will activate Tuesday in flashing mode at Glendas Way and Briarwood Lane on Route 2 in Spotsylvania County to improve pedestrian safety after several fatal crashes—crews will also begin a $3.1-million paving project on Route 208 near Lawyers Road that will close one lane on weekdays and is expected to finish by November, weather permitting.  The Free Lance–Star
