  • Eavesdrop Brewery won NoVA Wars after five rounds of reader voting while the Stafford Board postponed a historic zoning decision for Sherwood Forest Farm until January—new residential projects began along Fredericksburg’s Princess Anne and Fall Hill corridor as Attorney General Jason Miyares outlined his second term plans. Today dog owners enjoy one last splash at Soggy Doggy at Doris E. Buffett Pool, and local officials continue efforts on housing and education in nearby communities.  Potomac Local News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Fredericksburg Jazz Collective has moved its monthly jazz jam to Curitiba Art Cafe at 919 Caroline St., with the 40-minute host band set starting Sept 11 at 7 p.m.—after which musicians join the open jam until 10 p.m. The nonprofit also will offer jazz master classes to local students so they can learn the art of jazz.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • The Sound of Music is playing at Riverside Center for the Performing Arts in Fredericksburg and will run through October 26 with evening shows at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday matinees at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday shows at 3:00 p.m. The musical features strong leads by Sarah Mae Andersen and Tim Rogan—who bring warmth and energy to their roles in a classic performance that delights local audiences.  Potomac Local News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joshua Cole is running for re-election in House District 65, which covers Fredericksburg—he plans to reintroduce a homebuyer grant with a new Governor and continues fighting to lower costs and improve public education and health for his community.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Candidates running for open Spotsylvania County seats on the Board of Supervisors and School Board met Wednesday at Germanna Community College’s Spotsylvania campus to discuss issues like data center rules, growth management, and school funding. Of the 15 candidates, only two did not attend the forum—sponsored by The Fredericksburg Free Press—ensuring nearly full participation in the local race.  The Free Lance–Star

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMW named its championship soccer field after longtime coach Roy Gordon on Aug. 31 to honor his 34 years of leading the men’s soccer team to multiple championships—his 432 wins made him a Division III coaching elite. Alumni and donors helped fund renovations, and the university aims to drive future fundraising for its athletic facilities.  University of Mary Washington
