  • Residents questioned plans to convert the former Mary Washington Hospital into apartments during a September 4th meeting at the Dorothy Hart Community Center in Fredericksburg—raising concerns about traffic, parking, density and long-term effects as City officials push for more housing on Fall Hill.  Potomac Local News
  • Today, a new 24-hour Wawa store opens in Dumfries with a grand celebration—while a Full Moon Hike at Neabsco Creek Boardwalk offers a nature walk with s’mores for participants. In Fredericksburg, residents can join the Day of Play on September 21 at Virginia Credit Union Stadium, and early voting for the November election begins on September 19 at FXBG City Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Potomac Local News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Dominion Energy is proposing to raise residential utility rates by an extra $10.51 a month starting in January 2026 and January 2027 while also increasing the fuel rate to $10.92—a proposal now under review by the State Corporation Commission. The plan will add a new rate class for data centers that use more than 25 megawatts to ensure these high-energy users pay a fair share for expanding power infrastructure.  Fredericksburg Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • VDOT has scheduled overnight lane closures for paving, fiber installs, and road widening on major roads in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, and Stafford this week. In Fredericksburg, closures on Fall Hill Avenue and Route 1 will start Tuesday—drivers should plan extra travel time.  Potomac Local News
  • Baron Braswell and Chris Yakabouski competed for a seat representing the Battlefield District on the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors and both emphasized the need for a special use permit for data centers, better school funding, and careful growth management during a forum at Germanna Community College. They also discussed regional transportation projects as Yakabouski supported a transport resolution while Braswell urged caution — both aiming to address key county issues.  Fredericksburg Free Press
