Chef Dan Perron opened his new restaurant, Locavore, on William Street in downtown Fredericksburg—where he will serve dishes made with local ingredients.

He said the spot is set to bring fresh flavors to the community.

UMW students worked at the ancient port of Lechaion in Greece this summer, where they unearthed artifacts including a cremation urn plus coins, Byzantine glass and more under the guidance of their instructor.

Their hands-on experience in excavation has strengthened their plans to pursue advanced studies in archaeology.

UMW recognized five faculty members this fall including Associate Professors Melissa Wells, Christine McBride, and Xin-Wen Wu as well as Jennifer Barry and Janine Davis for their outstanding teaching, research, and service.

UMW Provost Timothy O’Donnell presented the awards —one for exceptional classroom instruction— and the ceremony celebrated faculty achievements —boosting both undergraduate and graduate programs—.

Rebkee’s $50 million proposal will turn the former Mary Washington Hospital into 242 apartments plus commercial space at 2300 Fall Hill Avenue; a public hearing tomorrow by the Fredericksburg Planning Commission will review a special use permit to raise density from six to 36 units per acre, while residents have raised concerns about parking and traffic impacts with this and other nearby projects.
