COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Food Bank will hold a distribution event this week where no paperwork or ID is needed—only a few quick questions will be asked to help serve everyone.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • On Hunger Action Day, the Rappahannock Education Farm surpassed 9,000 pounds of fresh produce donated to local agencies fighting food insecurity across the Fredericksburg area—highlighting a strong community effort.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Since September 9th the elevator at the Fredericksburg Branch Library at 1202 Caroline Street has been out of service while the city installs a new lift — the library remains open and patrons can use curbside pickup or visit another location for holds.  City of Fredericksburg

  • Gabe and Scarlett Pons moved from NYC to open their Ponshop in Fredericksburg—explaining how their business is evolving and what it is like to run it with a spouse.  Fredericksburg Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fredericksburg City School Board announced that Ward 3 representative Jen Boyd resigned after moving out of the city—she had served since 2016 and was preparing for retirement. The board will advertise the interim position until Sept 15, post redacted applications on Sept 16, hold a public meeting on Sept 22 at 5 p.m., and vote that evening with the new member to be sworn in at the Oct 6 meeting.  Fredericksburg Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The University of Mary Washington will host a public debate on October 2 at 7 p.m. at George Washington Hall’s Dodd Auditorium. Incumbent Joshua Cole will face challenger Sean Steinway for the 65th District House of Delegates seat in Fredericksburg—UMW professor Stephen Farnsworth will moderate audience questions.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Multiple roadwork projects are scheduled this week in the Fredericksburg area, with work planned on I-95, city streets and county routes—covering milling, paving, bridge washing, road widening, and traffic signal improvements to ease commuting. Officials note that some projects will continue into the future while work in the area follows planned time windows on weekdays and nights.  Fredericksburg Free Press
