- ➤ Stafford Fire and Rescue will host a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Virginia Credit Union Stadium on September 14 at 8:00 a.m.—participants of all ages will honor those lost on September 11, 2001—and support Tunnel to Towers by choosing stairs or a walking route. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Today, NOVA celebrated the grand opening of its new Data Center Operations Training Facility in Woodbridge while Fredericksburg hosts Skate Night at Dixon Park from 6 to 8 p.m. and Occoquan holds Trivia Night at 6:30 p.m.—Chef Paul Syms is leaving Potomac Shores Golf Club, and Stafford’s Oktoberfest Beer Trail along with hazardous waste drop-off at Stafford Regional Airport are set for September 13. - ➤ UMW Galleries will host four art exhibits this fall, including a project that lets visitors swap paintings and an exhibit that pairs abstract works with sculptures — both venues will hold talks and roundtables to share ideas. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Stafford School Board picked names for two new elementary schools, Falls Run and Crow’s Nest, set to open for the 2026-2027 school year. The board also approved mascots and school colors with Falls Run as the Foxhounds and Crow’s Nest as the Blue Jays (purple, gold and navy for Falls Run; turquoise, navy and lime for Crow’s Nest). - ➤ On Wednesday, Gov. Glenn Youngkin called the Educational Choice Act a landmark for education as it lets parents donate tax-free money for private schools while critics worry it will pull funds from public education — state officials will decide its role once federal guidelines arrive. - ➤ City leaders at Fredericksburg City Hall allocated $250K to jumpstart planning for the city's 300th anniversary in 2028 — funding that will support future community celebrations. The project is expected to guide additional planning efforts as the milestone approaches. Potomac Local News
- ➤ Residents of Virginia Heritage at Lee’s Parke in Cosner’s Corner say a developer or county should have fixed the access road while a dispute with Spotsylvania continues—affecting over 700 homes. The Free Lance–Star

- ➤ Under new Virginia guidance, people age 65 and those with certain conditions can get a COVID-19 vaccine without a prescription—this change temporarily lifts earlier rules and aims to ease delays at pharmacies.
