- ➤ Fall events are in full swing in the region — families can enjoy the Day of Play at FredNats Ballpark, the First Tee Benefit Golf Tournament will tee off on Oct. 13 to support local youth, and Little Shop of Horrors opens on Sept. 19 at Hylton Performing Arts Center. Potomac Local News
- ➤ More than 130 golfers teed off Monday at Lee’s Hill Golf Club in Spotsylvania to honor fallen firefighters and raise awareness of occupational cancer that claimed 40 lives since 2018. - ➤ The new federal budget cut over $1 billion from workforce programs that help people earn GEDs, get job training, and earn certifications. - ➤ Today, Virginia Attorney General nominee Jay Jones announced a plan to fight fentanyl issues by proposing a new Drug Trafficking Unit in his office to help law enforcement and commonwealth’s attorneys share information and coordinate investigations. He also said he will work with local schools on counterfeit pill education and expand treatment programs for those dealing with addiction—efforts that will build on measures taken by state officials. - ➤ The Stafford County Board of Supervisors is set to vote today on the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Calendar — a move that will spark the next debate over taxes and spending. Potomac Local News
- ➤ Falmouth District voters will choose a new county supervisor next November since incumbent Meg Bohmke is not running, setting up a contest between Michael Catell—Bohmke’s endorsed businessman—and Kecia Evans, a planning commissioner who could be the first Black person in the role. Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time Lower School Second Grade Teacher, with a contract running from October 2025 through July 2026, with the potential to extend into the following school year.
