COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The 8th annual Austen’s Communitas 5K Walk is scheduled for this Saturday with a 9:00 a.m. gather at Memorial Park—honoring local graduate Austen Dunn and raising awareness and funds for brain aneurysm research. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ The Food Bank is distributing food this week without requiring paperwork or ID—only a few quick questions are asked to serve everyone. The effort aims to make it easier for residents to get the help they need. Fredericksburg Free Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fredericksburg City Council approved new cable TV measures on Sept. 9 that extended Cox Communications’ right to operate in the city and eliminated a commission set to provide resident oversight—changing how cable service is managed. Potomac Local News
- ➤ Multiple road projects are scheduled this week in the Fredericksburg area, with lane closures and bridge washing planned on I-95 and several local routes including Routes 2, 17, and 207—affecting both nighttime and daytime travel. Motorists should prepare for reduced lanes and shifting traffic—especially during work hours as crews mill, pave, and install rumblestrip. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ A citizens advisory panel reported that the Fredericksburg region logged over 400 pedestrian and cyclist crashes since 2016—prompting calls for a complete streets plan to create safer, connected roadways. Potomac Local News
- ➤ Almost 300,000 voters are registered in the Fredericksburg area—early voting will begin Friday and Virginia voters can also send ballots by mail or vote in person on Election Day, Nov. 4. The Free Lance–Star
- ➤ The Spotsylvania NAACP, led by President Moe Petway (organizer), is hosting a local candidate forum for board and school seats at Salem Church Library on Sept. 29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. It will also host a forum for state office candidates at the same location on Oct. 13 from 6-7:30 p.m. (co-sponsored by local groups). - ➤ Stafford Schools held the CIP Town Hall on September 16 for local residents to learn about upcoming projects and share their ideas. The Via Colori Street Art Festival will take place at the Stafford Regional Airport on September 27–28 and early voting in Stafford County will begin on September 19 for the November General Election. - ➤ Debi Bernardes, a 67-year-old King George resident, competed in the Masters CrossFit Games in Columbus, Ohio from Aug.21 to Aug.24 and finished 14th in her age group after recovering from pneumonia—she said the challenge has motivated her to train harder for future competitions. Second Grade Teacher
Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time Lower School Second Grade Teacher, with a contract running from October 2025 through July 2026, with the potential to extend into the following school year.
