- ➤ Local Norfleet Mulch is closing its Central Road facility after selling the property last month and is holding a liquidation sale as operations are set to end within about a month—other projects include a proposal to convert a former cinema into a dealership for used cars and the Patient First project that will soon begin at Alum Spring Road, while housing prices in August increased as sales slowed. - ➤ Fredericksburg City Public Schools posted resumes and letters of interest from four candidates including Keon Toyer, Elizabeth Rehm, Caitlin Finlayson and Christopher Butz after Jen Boyd stepped down from the Ward 3 school board seat. The board will hold a Sept. 22 special meeting for public input and name an interim appointee who takes office at the Oct. 6 meeting with the seat up for election in November. - ➤ University of Mary Washington Theatre students launch their season with Dial M for Murder at duPont Hall’s Klein Theatre; the play opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Sept. 28—ticket prices are $30 for standard admission and $25 for students and seniors—. University of Mary Washington
- ➤ Stafford County Public Schools approved using $1.5M from its health benefits reserve on Sept. 16 to cover a 25% jump in employee healthcare claims. School finance officials said that higher premiums and a $4M addition to next year's budget will help stabilize the fund — though further claims may force more withdrawals from the OPEB fund. - ➤ The Fredericksburg Police Department launched its second Youth Academy on Monday night to give 16 local teens and young adults 10 weeks of hands-on learning in police operations and emergency communications — the program is supported by the Fredericksburg Host Lions Club. - ➤ Stafford County supervisors raised concerns about traffic and discussed road improvements—like widening one lane on Blackhawk Drive—for three new schools that will open next August. Second Grade Teacher
Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time Lower School Second Grade Teacher, with a contract running from October 2025 through July 2026, with the potential to extend into the following school year.
