EDUCATION NEWS

  • UMW President Troy D. Paino was named on the Virginia Business Virginia 500 Power List and honored as an Icon—he was also listed among the 50 Most Influential People by Northern Virginia Magazine for his work in higher education. His nearly ten years at UMW have boosted student retention and expanded academic programs.  University of Mary Washington
  • School leaders met on Sept. 17 at the Fredericksburg Country Club to discuss education challenges like child care and absenteeism and to urge local businesses to expand internship and career programs—highlighting measures such as low-cost child care centers and new work-based learning rules.  Potomac Local News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in Stafford County will soon pay more if their cars are towed from private property because the Board of Supervisors approved raising the fee from $135 to $210 on September 16 to align with a state law that took effect on July 1+the new fee applies only to tows requested by property owners while sheriff-initiated tows are managed separately.  Potomac Local News

    Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time Lower School Second Grade Teacher, with a contract running from October 2025 through July 2026, with the potential to extend into the following school year. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing an engaging Second Grade curriculum inclusive of language arts, math, social studies, and sciences. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching young learners, fostering strong relationships with students and families, and working collaboratively with colleagues to create a dynamic, nurturing classroom environment.
