- ➤ Historic Kenmore, completed in 1775, is celebrating its 250th anniversary with a community block party on Saturday, September 27 at 1201 Washington Ave in Fredericksburg. The event will feature guided house tours, historic trade demonstrations, interactive exhibits, cupcakes, lady games — and it will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with $5 admission for adults and free entry for children 17 and under. - ➤ Courtney Mersiowsky from City Parks, Recreation and Events said groups should register for the Fredericksburg Christmas parade by October 17 since spots fill quickly—past parades have filled early. The parade is scheduled for December 6. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Community leaders held a ribbon-cutting for the John J. Wright Cultural Center's 15th anniversary on Saturday and urged the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors to provide funding to support the museum and alternative school that preserve local African-American history. - ➤ Stafford County is holding a three-way race for the Garrisonville District school board seat. - ➤ University of Mary Washington ran a four-week LaunchPad program that helped 225 first-year students like Crow Sindelar learn to organize syllabi, track assignments, and use computer tools provided by an Impact Grant—skills that eased their transition to college. - ➤ The Fredericksburg City School Board announced that Elizabeth Rehm—former Ward 1 representative—will fill the Ward 3 vacancy created by Jen Boyd’s resignation.
