- ➤ On Friday, October 3, Market Square will host Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center’s Save Jane event where over 11,000 names of child abuse victims—listed as Jane Doe or John Doe with their age—will be read aloud to honor the children and call for stronger protection measures. - ➤ The University of Mary Washington tied for No. 8 in today’s 2026 U.S. News & World Report ranking among Top Public Liberal Arts Colleges, up one spot from last year—applications for fall admissions are open and campus tours are scheduled on Sept. 27, Oct. 18 and Nov. 8. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fredericksburg announced that Jennifer Casarotti is the new Director of Parks, Recreation and Events – she brings over 20 years of local and federal experience and will lead the city’s parks, programs and community events. She will work with her team to enhance services and support plans that improve recreation for all residents. City of Fredericksburg
- ➤ The Fredericksburg City School Board selected Elizabeth Rehm to temporarily fill the Ward 3 vacancy after Jennifer Boyd resigned on Sept. 8 because she moved out of the city+ officials said her appointment will remain in place until a permanent replacement is named. Potomac Local News
- ➤ Transportation officials announced that alternating lane closures and overnight work will occur on I-95—from Courthouse Road to Centreport Parkway—and on several local routes affecting Fredericksburg, including intersection improvements and widening projects on Mudd Tavern Road. The work, scheduled from tonight through early next week, will involve rumblestrip installation, pavement marking and bridge washing to improve road safety. Fredericksburg Free Press
