COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Central Rappahannock Regional Library’s William J. Howell Branch will celebrate 15 years of service on October 9 at 4 p.m. at 806 Lyons Boulevard in Stafford County — the free event is open to the public.  Potomac Local News
  • Today's Neighborhood Notes covers events across the region. It features Grammy winner Jason Isbell’s Hylton Center debut on Jan 15, the colorful chalk art at Via Colori Stafford festival at the Stafford Regional Airport, and the final week of Kick Back Tuesday concerts at Riverfront Park—plus volunteer opportunities and community activities in Haymarket and Dumfries.  Potomac Local News
  • GWRideConnect’s annual slug survey showed increased carpool use at Staffordboro and Warrenton Road Park and Ride lots — 42 vehicles picked up 104 riders at Warrenton Road on September 9 while hundreds of riders were recorded at Staffordboro on September 10 despite rainy conditions. Staff noted that slugging, a long-standing way to cut vehicle miles along I-95, may grow as more commuters join.  Potomac Local News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Renovation work has begun on the historic building at 922—924 Caroline St. next to Market Square in downtown Fredericksburg and will create two commercial spaces and four new apartments, according to owner Sophia Constantine. Additional local business updates include a potential return of Einstein Bros. Bagels, a rebranded deep-dish pizza restaurant now part of Sammy T’s, and an indoor playground scheduled to open in October.  Fredericksburg Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The monthly jazz concert series will kick off this Friday at Seacobeck Hall—featuring live music and a spotlight on local nonprofit FAILSAFE-ERA. The event will draw locals to enjoy a vibrant evening of music.  Fredericksburg Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stafford County is preparing three new schools to open in August 2026 and is beginning a teacher transfer process this fall; Hartwood High will open without a senior class—staffing changes will be made once enrollment numbers are finalized.  Potomac Local News
  • Hundreds of students from the University of Mary Washington and local colleges will attend the Career and Internship Fair tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cedric Rucker University Center’s Chandler Ballroom (part of Life After Mary Wash Week); more than 50 employers in education, healthcare, tourism and government sectors are set to participate.  University of Mary Washington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fredericksburg City Council will have a new Ward 1 member when Jason Graham, who served since 2018, does not seek re-election and his term ends later this year. Three candidates — Matt Rowe, Kenneth Gantt and David Cropper — are running with plans to boost affordable housing, support public services and manage community growth.  The Free Lance–Star
  • Local officials invite public comment at a Sept. 30 hearing from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Walker–Grant Center on the Dixon Park Connector Trail project—a 10-foot paved trail linking Caroline Street and Dixon Park. VDOT said I–95 northbound off–ramp will close Wednesday and Thursday nights from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. and work on the Route 207 northbound bridge over the Mattaponi River will divert traffic with reduced speed limits until the bridge reopens in April.  Fredericksburg Free Press

  • Fredericksburg officials announced that they will convert the old Medical Arts Building on Fall Hill Avenue into apartments—while planning a new hospital project in the area.  Potomac Local News
