BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local business news shows a proposed 2 million square foot data center campus on 200 acres in Thornburg — part of a surge in regional development that also includes major road work, a child-care center permit, and a plan converting a three-story building into 30 apartments. Other updates include a Lake Anna home sale of $1.41 million topping the week’s sales, leadership changes at the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Community Foundation, and a building sale that will soon bring a new restaurant.  Fredericksburg Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sept. 30, VDOT held a public hearing at the Walker-Grant Center in downtown Fredericksburg on plans to build the Dixon Connector Trail linking Dixon Park to Caroline Street using current trails—residents shared support for improved train station access and raised concerns over costs and lane changes. VDOT will take comments until Oct. 10, and construction is set to start in January 2028 and finish by 2029.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Fundraising for Virginia’s historic gubernatorial race is lower than in past contests even as Winsome Earle-Sears and Abigail Spanberger push to gain support from local and out-of-state donors. The campaign has received fewer PAC funds and more small individual donations — a sign of strong grassroots efforts — as early voting remains open until Nov. 1 and Election Day is Nov. 4.  Fredericksburg Free Press

  • The Power of Pink Breast Cancer Walk will happen this Saturday morning at the Fick Center parking lot at 1301 Sam Perry Blvd to raise funds and awareness for local breast cancer care—Xavier Richardson from Mary Washington Healthcare previewed the event as a festive, uplifting start.  Fredericksburg Free Press
