EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Grafton Village Elementary School Principal Michael Sidebotham was named to the National Assessment Governing Board—tasked with shaping the Nation’s Report Card—the Stafford County school system said. He was honored by the Virginia Department of Education for his leadership and will use his expertise in assessment to guide national test standards. Fredericksburg Free Press

- ➤ A Fredericksburg traffic study recommends converting one-way streets to two-way travel + adding bike lanes and safety upgrades downtown. City planners will review the proposal as they plan future roadway changes. The Free Lance–Star
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ High school football teams won district games Friday—Caroline’s Cavaliers beat James Monroe 42 to 7 in a homecoming game where quarterback Blake Morris ran hard and the defense forced key turnovers, and teams from Colonial Forge, Courtland, Massaponax, North Stafford and Spotsylvania also posted big wins. Several schools will host new district contests next Friday as they build on their strong seasons. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Caroline beat James Monroe 42—7 on October 3, with quarterback Blake Morris leading a strong drive and a steady defense. The win marked a promising start to the Cavaliers' season. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Eric Bach, the FredNats play-by-play announcer, received a call from Washington Nationals broadcasting director Wendy Bailey in mid-September and filled in for three home games against the Atlanta Braves, including a doubleheader on Sept. 16th and a game on Sept. 17th.
