- ➤ UMW held an Employee Appreciation Luncheon on Oct. 14 in the Chandler Ballroom at the Cedric Rucker University Center where staff and faculty enjoyed a buffet and received awards and door prizes. The event honored winners of the Larry Atkins, Coleman, and Hurley Awards—recognizing their hard work and dedication—and celebrated teamwork across campus. University of Mary Washington

- ➤ Senator Tara Durant and Governor Youngkin announced a $5.5 million plan to expand crisis care in the Fredericksburg area—funds will improve an existing facility and add youth crisis care units, and a groundbreaking is set for 10:30 a.m. on October 24 near Four Mile Fork. Potomac Local News

- ➤ Old Dominion Humane Society in Fredericksburg is celebrating Adopt a Shelter Dog Month — urging families to rescue a dog instead of buying one.
