COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fredericksburg is hosting its biggest Halloween weekend with free family events starting Friday, October 24 and continuing Saturday, October 25. The schedule includes Park After Dark at Memorial Park at 6:30 p.m., a Family Costume Stroll beginning at 8:30 a.m. at VRE Lot B, Treats on the Streets from 10 a.m. to noon, a haunted bus event in Market Square, and Halloween at the Market at the Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Potomac Local News
  • On October 10th and 11th, the local REALTORS® Foundation and YPN hosted a charity golf tournament at Augustine Golf Club and a downtown pub crawl that raised nearly $13,000 for housing charities. Organizers said the events demonstrated strong community support for helping families facing housing insecurity—showing that fun activities can make a real difference.  Potomac Local News
  • Stafford County's five high school marching bands will perform on November 3 at 7 p.m. at Mountain View High School for the 15th annual Band Together to Fight Hunger event—free admission is offered with a nonperishable food donation; donations will benefit SERVE and the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank as about 400 student musicians give a grand finale performance—aiming to supply 50,000 meals to local families.  Potomac Local News

  • Rocky Mountain Resuscitation—veteran-owned and based in Spotsylvania County—offers training for emergency medical responders this week using hands-on drills to improve essential skills.  Fredericksburg Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Stafford Board of Supervisors is voting today on a revised plan to add shops, homes, and a movie theater to Garrisonville Road—an effort to avoid the construction of 453 apartments. The long-delayed project may reshape housing and retail options for the area.  Potomac Local News
  • VDOT announced an extra day for the Falmouth Bridge inspection on Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Northbound Route 1 will be reduced to one lane—drivers may face brief delays between Fredericksburg and Stafford County.  Potomac Local News
  • A government shutdown on October 20 threatened to delay food benefits for residents in Fredericksburg—officials said local agencies were reviewing options to restore aid.  The Free Lance–Star
