COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Stafford County and Fredericksburg City Council have allocated funds to support the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank as rising SNAP payment interruptions increase food demand amid the government shutdown. Stafford’s $65,000 and the city's up to $55,640 will cover extra distributions and overtime—helping neighbors during this crisis.  Fredericksburg Free Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Crunch Fitness Fredericksburg offers a high-energy gym with a 'No Judgments' philosophy that welcomes newcomers and seasoned athletes by providing memberships starting at $9.99 per month plus access to strength equipment, cardio machines, personal training, group classes and amenities such as saunas and tanning.  Potomac Local News
  • Einstein Bros. Bagels will open at 3500 Plank Road in Spotsylvania County—taking over the former Tobacco Hut space—while a new eatery will launch in Fredericksburg’s former Burger King, and UMW broke ground on a modular locker-room facility at the Battleground Athletic Complex set for completion by August. Other updates include a City Council-approved plan to convert the Medical Arts Building into 29 apartments with public comments open until Nov. 17 and a Stafford County Economic Development initiative for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29.  Fredericksburg Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Riverside Center for the Performing Arts will host a 60—minute puppet show of The Velveteen Rabbit on November 22 that features hand puppets—told by a solo puppeteer through storytelling and song; children can also visit Santa after the show.  Potomac Local News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High school seniors who apply to UMW by Oct. 31 will receive an official admissions decision during a Nov. 4 reception on the Fredericksburg campus—featuring an info session, campus tour and decision release—while those unable to attend may join a Fall Open House on Nov. 8.  University of Mary Washington
  • The Fredericksburg Chamber announced that it will host its third annual Mock Interview Day for high school+college students as part of its WorkForce NOW initiative to boost workforce readiness. Volunteers can sign up for two-hour slots or a full day to conduct mock interviews, offer feedback, and support the Chamber’s scholarship fund.  Potomac Local News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fredericksburg Regional Transit announced that starting December 1 the Stafford County bus routes will be realigned and renumbered—changes based on community feedback from the Transit Strategic Plan. Updated maps and schedules will be available in November at Central Station and on the FXBGO website.  Potomac Local News
  • Recent polls show that Virginia may see more ticket splitting in the Nov. 4 state elections as Governor candidate Abigail Spanberger leads by about 12 percentage points while other races remain very close—history shows that voters once often chose candidates from different parties.
