- ➤ At the annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Fredericksburg War Memorial on George Street — held today — organizers identified local veterans' needs and connected them with available support services. - ➤ Spotsylvania teen Sgt. Faith Clevenger was honored with the national Jimmy Trimble Scholarship at the Veterans Conference on November 8 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.—she was recognized for her leadership and service with the Young Marines. The homeschooled teen, a member of Fredericksburg’s LCpl. Caleb John Powers Young Marines since 2017, plans to study public affairs and forensic science at Virginia Commonwealth University next year. - ➤ Spotsylvania County schools added a weapons detection system at board meetings after online threats were made against Superintendent Clint Mitchell & School Board Chair Megan Jackson following the ban of speaker Shamgar Connors. Mitchell showed his immigration documents and academic credentials at the meeting while a board member and community members raised concerns over the system’s uneven use in schools.
