- ➤ Shakira Austin held a basketball camp on Nov. 9 at James Monroe High where children with autism enjoyed drills, painted foam basketballs, and sensory rooms—an event organized with her mother and aunt to raise autism awareness for the community. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Downtown Fredericksburg will kick off the holiday season on November 15–16 with a Holiday Open House Weekend featuring festive shop specials, holiday treats, and a Window Wonderland Riddle Contest, and the Tree Lighting on November 15 at 4 p.m. in Riverfront Park will include live music, food vendors, and photos with Santa. - ➤ The section of Eagle Village shopping center that was damaged in a December fire is being rebuilt with several returning tenants—Clean Town Inc Laundromat, the U.S. Post Office, Any Lab Test Now, and Lee’s Cleaners—with new space available for additional businesses while Play It Again Sports will not re-open. Other local business news includes a dog-friendly bar opening Dec. 10 at 1515 Olde William St and a $2 billion data center project in Stafford that will create 50 jobs. Fredericksburg Free Press
- ➤ Stafford County launched a Shop Small Stafford campaign using a digital passport—allowing shoppers to earn entries for prize drawings—and local businesses can register by November 14; residents may win one of three gift certificates on Small Business Saturday, November 29. Potomac Local News

- ➤ Hurkamp Park is set to host the annual FXBG Pottery Throwdown—an event where local potters will shape clay works this Saturday. Fredericksburg Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UMW announced the 2026 Great Lives Lecture Series starting Jan. 20, 2026 at George Washington Hall’s Dodd Auditorium — the free, biweekly lectures will cover subjects from SNL’s Lorne Michaels to America’s 250th anniversary with live Q&A sessions and later online recordings. The series runs until March 19, 2026 and is open to the public. University of Mary Washington
- ➤ On November 7, Spotsylvania County Public Schools banned outspoken critic Shamgar Connors from all school division properties until July 1, 2026—he had repeatedly disrupted meetings by mocking DEI practices. The new board increased security with a weapons detection system after receiving threats and marked a shift in education policy as local elections replaced long-standing conservative control. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Express Lanes announced that starting November 20 through November 28, the 395 and 95 lanes will reverse their directions early to ease holiday traffic before Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving the lanes will run southbound all day and drivers with three or more people using an E-ZPass Flex set to HOV-ON will travel for free. Potomac Local News
